Portishead has surfaced with a fresh, haunting cover of a classic ABBA cut.

The English trip-hop outfit shared their take of “SOS”, made for the Tom Hiddleston movie High-Rise. (Portishead announced in October they would produce the track for director Ben Wheatley’s film.)

While the Swedish pop group’s 1975 single isn’t among their happiest tracks, Portishead strips it down and imbued it with a particular darkness. Singer Beth Gibbons seems to be just hanging on as each word spills out. The group last released a song, “Chase the Tear,” in 2009 to benefit Amnesty International.
