Back in the ’80s, a young man named Will Allen joined the West Hollywood-based spiritual community Buddhafield and spent the next two decades acting as videographer for both the organization and its leader, “Michel.” Allen has now used that footage as the basis for his debut film Holy Hell (out May 27), which details life at what the filmmaker would come to regard as a dangerous cult.

Holy Hell screened at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and its executive producers included Jared Leto. You can exclusively see the film’s trailer, above.
