The rock icon's remains were cremated, his rep confirmed
Prince will be honored with a “musical celebration,” his rep confirmed, following a private memorial held on Saturday.
The singer, who died on Thursday at age 57, was “was celebrated by a small group of his most beloved: family, friends and his musicians, in a private, beautiful ceremony to say a loving goodbye,” Prince’s rep said in a statement, adding that an “announcement will be made at a future date for a musical celebration.”
The cause of Prince’s death is still unknown, but after an autopsy was conducted on his body, Prince’s remains were cremated (per his rep, “their final storage will remain private”). Results from the autopsy “will take several days and the results of a full toxicology scan could likely take weeks,” the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office said in a statement on Friday.
“We ask for your blessings and prayers of comfort for his family and close friends at this time,” his rep said on Saturday, noting “it will be at least four weeks before we receive the results of the autopsy.”
