Princess Diaries 3: Anne Hathaway, Julie Andrews met with Garry Marshall to discuss sequel
Both Princess Diaries director Garry Marshall and his star Anne Hathaway teased their wish to make another sequel for the franchise, but so far Disney has yet to move ahead. To keep hope alive, Marshall revealed to Larry King that he had a meeting with both Hathaway and Julie Andrews to discuss the possibility.
“Well, they talk about it. Disney always likes to announce things, so they tell Garry, ‘Shut up, we’ll announce it,'” he joked on Larry King Now. “[Anne Hathaway] came to my office, she was quite pregnant…she puts her computer on the table, pushes three buttons, there’s Julie Andrews on Skype in Long Island. And we have a meeting.”
He added, “This is how we work. So I hope they do it.” Watch the segment in the video below.
The first film featured a young Hathaway as an awkward teenager, Mia, who finds out she’s the heir to the throne of Genovia. After enduring a complete makeover, the sequel saw the newly minted royal in the midst of an arranged marriage.
Earlier in March, Marshall told PEOPLE, “I was with Anne Hathaway a couple weeks ago, it looks like we want to do Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan.” Chris Pine, who starred in Princess Diaries 2, also implied he’d be open for another installment.
