Maggie Grace also stars. Plus: Find out when the Lifetime movie debuts

Showing Roots is ready to show its stuff.

EW can exclusively reveal that Lifetime’s Southern drama starring Maggie Grace (Taken) and Uzo Aduba (Orange Is the New Black) will premiere May 26 at 10 p.m. ET.

Set in 1977, the movie explores the pent-up racial tensions of a small town through the eyes of two women — one white, one black — who work together at the local beauty parlor. Forming an unlikely friendship, they get inspired to integrate their town when the miniseries Roots hits the airwaves.

The cast also includes Adam Brody, Elizabeth McGovern, and Cicely Tyson, who played Kunta Kinte’s mother in the original Roots. Michael Wilson directed from a script by Susan Batten.

Showing Roots will air a few days before the History Channel unveils an eight-hour Roots remake.
