In the futuristic drama Equals, Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult’s characters live in a society where emotions are genetically eliminated, which makes the connection they forge a very forbidden one.

A new trailer for the film arrived Monday ahead of its U.S. premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival that night. The sci-fi romance from Drake Doremus (Like Crazy) follows Nia (Stewart) and Silas (Hoult), who are part of a white-clad group called “The Collective” that has seemingly ended crime and violence by eliminating all human emotions. Despite this, the pair feels a growing attraction for one another that evolves into a forbidden relationship.

In the trailer, it’s seen that suspicion begins to mount among others in the group, and Nia and Silas must decide whether to go back to the lives they know or hatch a plan to escape.

Equals, written by Nathan Parker and also starring Guy Pearce, Jacki Weaver, Bel Powley, and Kate Lyn Sheil, opens in theaters July 15. Before that, it will be available exclusively on DirecTV beginning May 26.
