This post contains spoilers about the first season of Fargo.
Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele appeared during the first season of Fargo, playing a pair of FBI agents investigating Billy Bob Thornton’s murderous Lorne Malvo. But while the duo didn’t costar in the show’s second season — which took place years before the events depicted during the first season — Key and Peele are hoping for a return trip to the show in season 3 (even though they never made it out of season 1 alive).
“We’re both huge fans of Noah Hawley. Not just because he put us on the first season of Fargo,” Key joked to EW during last weekend’s TV Land Icon Awards, “but we were on the first season of Fargo.”
“We’re all about that season 3, though,” Peele added. “The story of the two detectives who got [killed] in the first one.”
Should Fargo executive producer Noah Hawley decide to bring Key and Peele back, they have some ideas where the narrative could go.
“Let’s talk about how they got recruited at Quantico and tell their whole story. Doesn’t even have to take place in Fargo,” Key joked. “Maybe someplace warmer like Miami or Savannah.”
“Play it cool,” Peele added. “Let them come to us.”
Unfortunately for Key and Peele, season 3 of Fargo won’t head back in time. “It’s more contemporary,” Hawley told EW last year about the time frame for his show’s next run. “It’s set a couple years after season 1.”
