Check out new footage from the 'Harry Potter' prequel
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them star Eddie Redmayne was on hand at the MTV Movie Awards to debut some brand new footage from the Harry Potter prequel.
Coming up from the ground following a Beasts-inspired dance intro, the Oscar winner spoke briefly of the “most astounding time” he and the cast had “getting to leap back into the world of J.K. Rowling’s imagination” before introducing “just a wee glimpse at what’s in store.”
As was previously revealed, the film features Redmayne as Newt Scamander, the author of one of Harry Potter’s schoolbooks, as he arrives in New York City in the 1920s. The American wizarding world back then is quite different from the modern, British one we know, as J.K. Rowling recently explored over at Pottermore. In the new footage, we see Scamander arriving at Ellis Island, where he’s asked if there’s any livestock in his creature-filled case. Thankfully, he’s able to set it to “Muggle-worthy” before the inspector examines it.
More importantly, we learn that Scamander was expelled from Hogwarts for “endangering human life,” though his teacher, one Albus Dumbledore, fought hard against it. Oh, and that case? Well, make sure you watch until the very end of the trailer — it does much more than just contain magical beings.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the first movie in a new trilogy of films penned by Rowling, and it follows Scamander after his magical, creature-containing suitcase is left open. The film, which also stars Katherine Waterston, Colin Farrell, and Ezra Miller, is set to open in theaters on Nov. 18.
