Guillermo del Toro’s Trollhunters has had a long path to the screen.

Back in 2010, DreamWorks Animation purchased the rights to del Toro’s story, planning to turn it into a 3D animated feature film, but the project stalled. Del Toro later released Trollhunters as an illustrated novel with Daniel Kraus in summer 2015, and in January, Netflix and DreamWorks announced that they are teaming up on two new original series: One is an animated reimagining of the 1980s series Voltron, and the other is del Toro’s long-anticipated Trollhunters.

Now, DreamWorks and Netflix have unveiled the first look at Trollhunters, promising to “unleash a new, fantastical world wrapped around the residents of the fictional suburb of Arcadia who make a startling discovery that the world beneath their hometown is as vast and mind-blowing as anything on the surface.”

Del Toro will also give a master class at this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 15, where he’ll premiere exclusive footage from the series.

Trollhunters will debut on Netflix later this year.
