In 2010, Welsh actor Andy Whitfield landed the biggest role of his career as the star of Spartacus. But after one season on the hit Starz drama, his dream was derailed by a sudden cancer diagnosis. He died just 18 months later, leaving behind his wife and two children.

Now, the actor is the subject of a new documentary. Be Here Now: The Andy Whitfield Story follows Whitfield and his wife, Vashti, on their inspiring search to find a cure for his diagnosis.

The project, from Oscar-nominated filmmaker Lilibet Foster, was in jeopardy of going unfinished before a successful Kickstarter campaign secured its completion. Be Here Now will be released in New York on April 8 and in Los Angeles on April 15. See an exclusive clip from the film, above.
