Pharrell Williams has announced that he’ll produce and contribute music to the upcoming drama Hidden Figures. The film, which stars Taraji P. Henson, Janelle Monae, Octavia Spencer, Kirsten Dunst, and Kevin Costner, is about African-American women at NASA who participated in the Space Race in the ’60s.

“After my producing partner Mimi Valdés and I heard about this project, we basically begged the producers and studio to allow us to participate,” Williams said in a statement. “This is an extraordinary story about black women with genius mathematical minds who contributed to American history. It takes place in Virginia, my home state, and at NASA, a place I’ve been obsessed with since childhood.”

Williams joins a production team that already includes Donna Gigliotti, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and director Ted Melfi — but the film’s music and soundtrack are all under Williams’ jurisdiction.

The pop star and producer has an extensive history with the silver screen. He executive produced and wrote songs for the soundtrack for 2015’s Dope and produced, wrote, and performed significant portions of the soundtracks for the two Despicable Me movies. And, the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack prominently featured his massive hit “Happy.”
