Jared Leto has taken the Joker to a nightmarish new level, thanks to Snapchat’s Suicide Squad-themed filter. The actor posted video of his bearded and haunting look to social media as an added fright.

“Exclusive! Meet the bearded Joker,” Leto tweeted. “Guess what? Batman is dead. BwwahahahaaaaaaaHAA.” See the video below.

Leto will make his debut in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad alongside Will Smith’s Deadshot, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne’s Enchantress, and more. But guess what? Batman isn’t dead! After Ben Affleck costarred with Henry Cavill in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the Dark Knight will also return for the DC supervillain film.

Despite all the characters, Joker is still one of the more highly anticipated features. Likening the role to Hamlet, Leto told EW, “You just knew you had to do something different. You had to make it your own. That happens all the time. Whether you’re a composer working on a piece of music that was written a century ago, or you’re an actor on stage, reinterpreting a play, it’s very common these days.”

Suicide Squad is scheduled for release on Aug. 5, and then we’ll see just how terrifying Leto’s Joker really is.
