'Scandal' spoofed the popular late-night segment with help from Jimmy Kimmel himself
Jimmy Kimmel hasn’t gotten Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton to read mean tweets about themselves for his popular late-night segment, but he did score Mellie Grant.
During Thursday’s episode of Scandal, Grant — the former first lady and current Virginia senator — appeared on a ficitional version of Jimmy Kimmel Live to mock herself through the nasty words of Twitter users.
“I didn’t know they let old ass pageant rejects run for president #gocryinyourcrown,” Grant, played by Bellamy Young, read during the segment.
“Mellie Grant thinks she can run the country, but she can’t even keep her man in check. Girl, bye,” read another mean tweet.
Speaking to EW in February about how she has prepared for Mellie’s run for president, Young said she was watching the current election cycle with particular interest. “I’m watching everything I can. Some of reality goes far further than our fiction would ever dare, because some of that stuff you just can’t write,” she said. “I watch it all.”
