Better Call Saul has been sprinkling in appearances from a fair amount of Breaking Bad characters recently. But there is one biggie we’re still waiting to see. So when Aaron Paul stopped by Entertainment Weekly Radio (SiriusXM, channel 105) on Friday morning to talk about his new Hulu series The Path, we had to ask: When might we see Jesse Pinkman on BCS? “I don’t know,” answered Paul coyly. “Maybe this season. Who knows? Maybe.”

But Paul acknowledges that he and the producers have discussed what a Jesse appearance on the show might look like. “Yeah, we’ve talked about it,” says Paul. “They kind of threw some ideas at me. Like, ‘What if? What do you think about this?’ So the conversations are definitely there, but it has to make sense for the show. They’re not just going to throw Jesse in the mix just so the fans can say, ‘Oh, look, it’s Jesse walking in the background.’ It needs to make sense to the show.

Of course, there is also the tricky timeline to consider. “It is technically a prequel,” says Paul. “It takes place years before Walt and Jesse ever came into the mix. So how old would Jesse would be. Middle school? High school? I don’t know. It would be pretty great to see Jesse in that skin.”

Paul also proclaims himself a huge fan of the AMC drama and how it has expanded the world, yet with a decidedly different vibe. “It is not a sequel or a prequel to Breaking Bad whatsoever,” Paul points out. “I mean, it has those elements, but they wanted it to be their own show. So it’s absolutely a stand-alone show. You can watch Better Call Saul without watching Breaking Bad. I highly recommend you watch Breaking Bad before, just because it kind of gives you a deeper look into these characters. I love what they’re doing.”
