Will Aldis penned the script, and producers Rachel Winter (Dallas Buyers Club) and Dan Keston first started working on Krystal in 2002. Macy signed on a few years back.

In addition to directing an episode of Shameless, Macy made his feature directorial debut in 2014 with the musical drama Rudderless, and he most recently directed the road trip sex comedy The Layover, starring Alexandra Daddario and Kate Upton.
