So far, Disney has given us a few glimpses of Wonderland and its colorful inhabitants through teasers and posters for the upcoming Alice Through the Looking Glass. A new trailer, however, explores exactly how Alice found her way back into Lewis Carroll’s whimsical and psychedelic world.

The new trailer finds Alice (Mia Wasikowska) locked up in a hospital, where a menacing doctor (Sherlock’s Andrew Scott) diagnoses her as excitable, prone to fantasy, and clearly suffering from a “textbook case of female hysteria.” A horrified Alice makes for a break for it, and after she rappels down a building and commandeers a horse-drawn carriage, she finds herself wandering through a mirror and back into Wonderland.

Loosely based on Carroll’s 1871 novel, Through the Looking Glass finds Alice reunited with her Wonderland friends and enemies, including the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp), the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter), the White Queen (Anne Hathaway), and Absolem the Caterpillar (the late Alan Rickman, lending his voice for one of his last roles). One sinister newcomer is Sacha Baron Cohen as Time, and Alice finds herself racing to rescue the Hatter from Time’s villainous clutches.
