Dancing With the Stars: Mark Ballas sat out Monday's show
The veteran pro re-injured his back during a Sunday rehearsal
Bummer days for Mark Ballas and his season 22 partner, Paige VanZant: The pro slipped a disc during Sunday’s rehearsal and had to sit out of Monday’s Latin Night on Dancing with the Stars.
The pro’s absence was evident at the top of the show: VanZant entered the ballroom solo. The rehearsal package showed Ballas lifting a very worried VanZant onto his shoulder. “His strength is okay,” VanZant said to the camera. “Mark has a smaller frame. If you put us next to each other, we are pretty close to each other.”
“I’ve never dropped a partner yet,” Ballas responded. But then he was filmed throwing VanZant through his legs the next day — and then stopped the camera blocking.
“I just slipped a disc,” he was filmed saying. “My back pinched funny. I’m hurting. Oh yeah, I’m in trouble.”
The show went on for VanZant, who danced with troupe member Alan Bersten. After their salsa, Ballas told Erin Andrews that he had an MRI and will go in for a bone and CT scan on Tuesday. “I’m hopeful I’ll be back.”
VanZant did fine with his choreography: She and Bersten earned 24 out of 30.
