Following a vibrant journalism career and a pair of science fiction books — Stray and its sequel Burn — Monica Hesse will debut her first young adult novel, Girl In the Blue Coat, April 5. The book takes a gripping historical dive into Nazi-occupied Amsterdam, where a young girl named Hanneke must navigate the difficult decision-making bestirred by war. As she struggles to come to grips with her boyfriend’s death, Hanneke must hawk black market goods to keep her family afloat. That is, until a neighbor recruits her to track down something far more dangerous: a Jewish girl gone missing in the dead of night.
