American Idol: Katharine McPhee returns to sing Over the Rainbow
Former American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee had herself a Throwback Thursday, returning to the show’s farewell season to once again perform her signature song, “Over the Rainbow.”
Dressed in a diaphanous pink gown and swirled in stage fog, McPhee belted out the Judy Garland tune like a seasoned veteran, earning a standing ovation from the judges and audience.
“It’s good to be back,” she told host Ryan Seacrest afterward.
McPhee competed on the fifth season of Idol and was ultimately bested by Taylor Hicks. Other hits she performed during the course of the competition included Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing,” R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly,” and Queen’s “Who Wants to Live Forever.”
McPhee released her fourth album, Hysteria, in September, and also moonlights as an actress. She currently stars on the CBS hacker drama Scorpion.
