Dancing With the Stars: Mischa Barton says Len Goodman was 'harsh'
Mischa Barton’s tango didn’t seem to leave Len Goodman feeling happy that he was back in the ballroom.
On Monday’s season 22 return of Dancing with the Stars, the former star of The O.C. underwhelmed with her debut tango. Peforming with pro Artem Chigvintsev, Barton earned a mere 16 from the three judges. But it was Goodman’s tough critique that literally brought her tears.
Among other digs, he accused her of walking through her number. “That wasn’t a dance,” he quipped.
After the premiere, Barton said his critique was “harsh” but expressed relief to EW “that it’s over.” She admitted that her performance was a source of frustration.
“I was more annoyed with stuff off the top, the actor-y [stuff],” she tells EW. “I don’t see all this stuff that they see all the time.”
Adds Chigvintsev, “The thing is, when someone comes into a competition like this, it’s quite hard to commit in general, and then to come out for the first time and perform live, doing something you’ve never done before, I feel like there should be more encouragement.”
Goodman is back in the ballroom after taking a season 21 off to live live fulltime in the U.K, where he serves as a judge on Strictly Come Dancing. He returned just as Julianne Hough said she would be stepping down from the dais. “I will miss being on the panel for season 22, but have a lot of exciting stuff coming that I look forward to sharing,” the former DWTS champion told PEOPLE. “The pro dancers, producers, and crew at DWTS will always be my family.”
