Michael Weatherly books first post-'NCIS' gig
The actor will play an early version of Dr. Phil in a CBS pilot
Great news for Michael Weatherly fans: he’s not straying from CBS.
The actor, who announced he was leaving NCIS at season’s end, will play an early version of Dr. Phil McGraw in the CBS drama pilot Bill, EW has confirmed.
The pilot, from Paul Attanasio and McGraw, is based on the self-help guru’s early career as a successful trial consultant who analyzed juries. It will also star Freddy Rodriguez, Geneva Carr, and Chris Jackson.
Here’s the official logline for Bull: “The head of a company that analyzes juries to help develop defense strategies. He has a physicality and feral intelligence that make him magnetic to women, and a bruising candor.”
In January, it was announced that Weatherly, who created the role of Special Agent Tony DiNozzo on NCIS in 2003, would leave the drama that made him a household name. He tweeted several goodbye messages, including, “DiNozzo is a wonderful, quixotic character & I couldn’t have had more fun playing him over the past 13 seasons.” He also tweeted that “Les Moonves & CBS gave me the opportunity of a lifetime.”
