Team Foxcatcher

In Foxcatcher, director Bennett Miller told the real-crime story of David and Mark Schultz, two Olympic wrestlers who became disastrously entangled with unstable philanthropist John du Pont. David’s tragic story comes to life again next month when Team Foxcatcher debuts on Netflix on April 29. The documentary, which tells the story of the world champion’s rise and subsequent murder, will first premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 18.

Told predominantly through the lens of David’s wife, Nancy, director Jon Greenhalgh’s film combines archival home videos and firsthand interviews to relive the events that led to murder. Du Pont had supported and developed a friendship with the Olympic medalist, but the relationship crumbled when the increasingly paranoid millionaire began to perceive David as “his demon that was after him,” as mentioned in the new trailer, above.

The shocking murder led to a two-day police standoff, and shook up the world of international sports.

“I’m proud to be a part of this film that was six years in the making to honor the incredible legacy of David,” Nancy said in a release. Team Foxcatcher will make its debut in time for the 20th anniversary of the tragedy.
