Reddit user JayElect (via Pitchfork) notes that the lyric “she be Puerto Rican day parade wavin'” has been edited to “she in school to be a real estate agent,” in addition to added layering. Listen to the new version of the song here.
Before the album dropped on Tidal, Yeezus delayed the release so he and Chance the Rapper could add “Wave” to the tracklist. West tweeted earlier this month that he was finishing “the final mixes of The Life of Pablo,” which now seem to be confirmed.
A representative for West did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment on TLOP changes.
“Famous” started a controversy involving Taylor Swift, due to a lyric in which West claims Swift would have sex with him, and that he “made that b– famous.” The rapper took to Twitter to state he had an hourlong phone conversation with the pop star, whom he said thought the line was “funny.” Swift’s rep asserted the singer did not know about the lyric ahead of time and opposed the song’s “strong misogynistic message.” She also made a veiled reference to the controversy in her Grammy acceptance speech for album of the year.
Addressing “all the young women out there,” she said, “There are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame. But if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, some day when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there, and that will be the greatest feeling in the world.”
