Ryan Gosling is back to saving the day. While not starring in movies, the actor has broken up street fights and saved lives, and most recently has continued his goodwill streak by saving a dog he came upon in the middle of the street.

A noted animal lover, Gosling was seen pulling his car over to the side of a highway in Palm Springs last weekend after seeing a white dog wandering between cars on the busy road. Photos show Gosling picking the pooch up and carrying it back to his or her owner nearby. The leading man was reportedly in Palm Springs to celebrate the birthday of his girlfriend Eva Mendes, according to Us Weekly.

Gosling was last publicly seen at the Oscars, having starred in Best Picture nominee The Big Short. His next starring role will be in 2016’s The Nice Guys opposite Russell Crowe.
