In 2012, Del Castillo posted support for El Chapo via Twitter by writing, “Today I believe more in El Chapo Guzmán than I do in the governments that hide truths from me, even if they are painful, who hide the cures for cancer….Mr. Chapo, wouldn’t it be cool if you started trafficking with the good? Come on … you would be the hero of heroes. Let’s traffic with love, you know how.” Two years later, a man who claimed to be El Chapo’s lawyer sought her help to make a movie about the drug lord’s life.
Del Castillo has already given an interview to The New Yorker, which can be found here.
The Sawyer special edition of 20/20 will air at 10 p.m. ET on March 18.
