Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Sarah Michelle Gellar celebrates show's 19th anniversary
She saved the world. A lot. And now Buffy’s significance is being celebrated by the actress who played her.
Thursday marks 19 years since the premiere of Joss Whedon’s supernatural drama Buffy the Vampire Slayer. To celebrate the anniversary, star Sarah Michelle Gellar shared a photo of herself from back in her Buffy days along with a note to her fans on Facebook.
“19 years ago tonight, I got to introduce you to Buffy The Vampire Slayer (and #mrpointy too),” Gellar wrote, referencing the name of Buffy’s favorite stake. “Thank you for taking the incredible journey with me and continuing still. I am and forever will be #grateful.”
Airing from 1997—2003, Buffy the Vampire Slayer chronicled the high school and college years of Buffy Summers, a girl with the powers and responsibilities of being the sole (for a while) warrior against evil supernatural forces. The series inspired a successful spin-off, Angel, and continues through season 10 in comic book form.
