Garden warfare is returning to mobile devices this year, but the plants and zombies will be tackling a new genre in their latest battle — collectible card games.
PopCap games has announced Plants vs. Zombies Heroes, which brings the beloved franchise back to phones and tablets, and introduces a card game format to the franchise along with a new breed of superhero plants and zombies. The announcement trailer only offers a brief hint at the gameplay that will be involved, but the collectible card game genre has become a major staple of mobile devices, most notably with Blizzard Entertainment’s Hearthstone.
The game will allow players to play as plants or zombies in either real-time multiplayer or in single-player missions. The franchise originally began on phones as a tower defense game.
Watch the trailer above and head over to the game’s official website for a bit more on the philosophy behind the design. Plants vs. Zombies Heroes is available in select territories now but will see a worldwide release later this year. And for more Plants vs. Zombies, the franchise most recently reappeared on consoles and PCs with Plants vs. Zombies 2: Garden Warfare, which is available now.
