In the pilot, Riggs is a Texas cop and former Navy SEAL who moves to Los Angeles as a member of the LAPD after losing both his wife and child. There, he’s partnered with Murtaugh, who has suffered a minor heart attack and has been instructed to avoid stress in his life. In the films, the death of Riggs’ wife left the Vietnam War veteran suicidal while acting as a narcotics sergeant on the LAPD.
McG will direct the pilot, which will also star Jordana Brewster as LAPD hostage negotiator and in-house therapist Dr. Maureen “Mo” Cahill, and Golden Brooks will play Murtagh’s wife Trish. Matt Miller wrote the pilot’s script and will act as executive producer.
