Jenner Nettles will share her second solo album, Playing With Fire, May 13, the singer announced Thursday.
The Grammy Award-winning country star, formerly one half of the famed Sugarland duo, first strutted into solo territory with 2014’s That Girl, a no-frills collection that flaunts her brassy southern croon. Nettles says the new record is a sassier cut, recorded in Nashville alongside country staples Brandy Clark, Shane McAnally, Jessie Jo Dillon, and Lori McKenna. Dann Huff, who’s worked with the likes of Keith Urban, Taylor Swift, and Steven Tyler, produced the LP.
“I am so proud of this record,” Nettles said in a statement. “I can’t wait to share it with my fans and hear their reactions. It is a ton of sass and emotion and fun.”
The album caps off a busy end-of-year for the singer. She premiered the project’s lead single, “Unlove You,” last fall to critical success, then promptly kicked off a supporting tour in October. She also made her acting debut in December, playing Dolly Parton’s devout Christian mother, Avie Lee, in NBC’s Parton biopic Coat of Many Colors.
