HBO’s new series Vinyl sees Ray Romano take a dramatic turn as music executive Zak Yankovich. On Tuesday night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the host suggested to Romano: “If there is a moral center to the show, which there might not be, it’s your character.”

Perhaps that’s true four episodes in, but Romano teased some dicier moments to come for his character, including a Las Vegas threesome. Romano quickly clarified that it’s a co-ed situation, “not two guys and me” — a line that caused Kimmel to laugh for a full six seconds. And Romano said filming the ménage à trois scene was somewhat uncomfortable.

“It gets weird,” Romano said. “Very stressful. It’s fun, and then it’s not fun because you’re worried about not letting it be too much fun, if you know what I’m saying. You don’t want them to green-screen your crotch out.”

Although Romano hasn’t been naked on screen often, he does have prior experience with a sex scene thanks to Men of a Certain Age. The scene called for Romano’s character to push his partner off and run into the bathroom yelling “leg cramp.” The scene went fine initially, but then had a hilarious complication.

“Director yells ‘cut,’ I look down, pull my pants up, and there’s a goo liquid all around the crotch,” Romano said. “I’m confused because, like, I would know. And what happened was my Purell exploded. That’s absolutely true. Wardrobe had to blow dry it, but I had to show every crew member this is what happened.”
