Breaking news: George R.R. Martin is not dead.
The Game of Thrones author penned a tongue-in-cheek reassurance to his followers in the wake of online confusion following the death of legendary Beatles producer Sir George Martin.
“While it is strangely moving to realize that so many people around the world care so deeply about my life and death, I have to go with Mark Twain and insist that the rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated,” Martin wrote on his blog in a post titled “Not Dead Yet.”
At least one news outlet reportedly even confused the two:
The 67-year-old author’s mortality has long been an impolite fixation among some fans of his A Song of Ice and Fire saga who fret about whether the author will finish the books which are the basis for HBO’s Game of Thrones. “I find that question pretty offensive, frankly, when people start speculating about my death and my health,” Martin once said in an interview. “So ‘f— you’ to those people.”
Added the author regarding the actual tragedy here: “I never met Sir George (I did meet Paul McCartney once, for about a minute, while waiting for the valet to bring my rental car up at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills), but like many millions of others, I loved the Beatles, and Martin’s contribution to their music is worthy of recognition and honor.”
At least nobody is calling the producer Ser George Martin.
