Fox’s next live musical is The Passion, a retelling of the last days of Jesus Christ set in modern-day New Orleans, with a soundtrack of contemporary pop-rock music. (It is not an adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar.) The Passion has already achieved buzz for its casting, including former American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry as Judas. In an exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette from Fox, you can see Daughtry in the leather-jacketed role for the very first time.
“I’m playing Judas. Not the most beloved character in the story, but there’s a lot of emotions that go into what he did,” Daughtry says in the video. “Portraying that struggle, that’s what really interests me about the character, because it’s something that’s very human, and very relatable.”

As noted on the previously released track list, Daughtry’s Judas will have two showcase songs: Imagine Dragons’ “Demons” and Evanescence’s “Bring Me To Life.” However, Daughtry notes that these will be “very different interpretations of the songs.”
“There’s always songs you hear and go, ‘I wish I wrote that,’ ” Daughtry says. “It’s fun to sing songs you respect and love. That never really changes when you become a songwriter.”
