We finally know who killed Wes’ mother!
Though at first it seemed like the Mahoney family put a hit out on Rose (Kelsey Scott), or a young Wes (Alfred Enoch) may have done it, and then there was even a shocking eleventh hour reveal that seemed to point the finger at Annalise (Viola Davis), Thursday’s episode of How to Get Away With Murder definitively revealed that Rose did, in fact, kill herself. (Read our full recap here.)
After Rose bailed on being a witness in the Mahoney case, Annalise enlisted Eve (Famke Janssen) to basically scare Rose into testifying lest she be deported. Rose promised to testify, but actually planned to run until Christophe fled her car. Back at Rose’s apartment, Annalise pleaded with Rose to reconsider testifying or the Mahoneys might go after Christophe. In turn, Rose took her own life, ensuring that Christophe would always be safe.
However, Wes uncovered the missing police report page that seemed to indicate he was to blame for her death and started to unravel, nearly revealing the truth to his therapist. “Legally she wouldn’t be able to tell the police anything, so there is a version where Wes tells her everything that’s happened to him,” executive producer Pete Nowalk says. “The question is: will that take the burden off his shoulders, or just lead to more chaos?”
At Laurel’s (Karla Souza) insistence, Annalise finally went to speak with Wes only to discover two things: Wes had tracked down Eve, which means it’s not Wes in his apartment, but Phillip (Jefferson White), who grabs Annalise for what is assumed to be nefarious reasons. “Philip’s suspected to have tied up, tortured, then killed the Hapstall parents, so imagine what you will,” Nowalk says. “That said, if anyone can take down Philip, it’s Annalise.”
While Annalise’s fate remains to be seen, a new plot arose when viewers discovered that Bonnie (Liza Weil) had taped Laurel and Frank’s (Charlie Weber) conversation, in which they discuss him murdering Lila. What does she plan to do with that info? “Bonnie’s mind must be racing,” Nowalk says. “First of all, the tape says that Frank killed Lila for Annalise. So Bonnie could go straight to Annalise and confront her about this. Or she can go to Frank. Or Laurel. Or she can just kill Frank … Like I said, she’s got many many options.”
