“At the base of it, why you’re an actor, is because you want to affect people,” Lowes told EW editor Henry Goldblatt on his SiriusXM radio show. “You want to affect change. I feel like a lot of the time, the projects you get to work on are the avenues on which you get to do those things.”
As part of EW’s Beyond Beautiful campaign, Lowes discussed why she feels the ABC drama she’s starred on since 2012 has been an ideal outlet for tackling topical issues. “We get to comment on race, politics, and sexual orientation and all these things,” the New York native says. “And I feel like those are the things you want to talk about.”

Lowes adds that in addition to discussing those topics on the red carpet, she also wouldn’t mind talking about books and music she enjoys, along with the significance of her current project. “As actors, you’re a storyteller, and I feel like the industry can get mixed up with what are the important things?” the actress, who plays Quinn Perkins, says.
