The Witch star Anya Taylor-Joy has cast her spell on Barry, an independent drama about a young Barack Obama’s adventures in New York City.

EW has confirmed the actress will star opposite relative newcomer Devon Terrell, who has been cast as the man who would be president.

Vikram Gandhi, the filmmaker behind the documentary Kumare, is directing Barry, which centers on Obama’s formative time as a college student in the Big Apple. Details about Taylor-Joy’s role have yet to emerge.

Adam Mansbach (Go the F‑‑‑ to Sleep, Angry Black White Boy) wrote the screenplay, and Black Bear Pictures and Cinetic Media are producing. Shooting is slated to start next month, with an eye toward a 2016 release.

Barry marks the second drama centering on Obama as a young man, following Southside With You. That film, about Obama’s first date with the future first lady, debuted at Sundance and was recently acquired by Miramax.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news about Barry.
