Are the Oscars out of touch when it comes to diversity? In a segment from Sunday’s Academy Awards, host Chris Rock went to Compton, California to find out from moviegoers at a theater there.

Those interviewed expressed concern and disappointment over the #OscarsSoWhite controversy. But, by their own admission, they didn’t see any of this year’s Oscar nominees. After Rock named Spotlight, Brooklyn, The Big Short, and Bridge of Spies, one woman asked, “Where are you getting these movies from?”

Another woman did see By the Sea with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, though Rock joked, “not even they would say” it was the best “white film” of the year.

Despite the jokes, the interviewees remarked that the Oscars statuette should not just represent white performers. “It should be Asian, Hispanic,” said one moviegoer. “There’s so much talent out there.”
