Derek Hough to star in Singin’ in the Rain on Broadway
Derek Hough is officially Broadway bound — and he’ll need an umbrella for it.
The Dancing With the Stars pro will star in an upcoming stage production of Singin’ in the Rain, a rep for Hough confirmed to EW.
The musical’s producer Harvey Weinstein made the announcement Saturday night at The Weinstein Company’s annual pre-Oscars party, E! News reports. Hough performed two numbers at the party, including the iconic title song.

Hough will play the role made famous by Gene Kelly in the original 1952 film, which also starred Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor. The story follows a silent film studio as it transitions to the world of talking pictures.
It was revealed in November that Paris’ Théâtre du Châtelet and Weinstein Live Entertainment were planning to bring the theater’s Singin’ in the Rain production to Broadway. The Châtelet is also where An American in Paris premiered before moving to the Great White Way, where it earned 12 Tony nominations.
Singin’ in the Rain first appeared on Broadway in 1985. The revival will reportedly open in January.
