'Why is everyone telling me it's Coldplay? I know Coldplay.'
The Super Bowl took place 18 days ago, but Taraji P. Henson still has to answer for her now-notorious tweet mixing up Coldplay and Maroon 5.
The backstory: During the Super Bowl halftime show, where Coldplay performed alongside Beyoncé and Bruno Mars, Henson tweeted out: “YAAAAAAASSSSSS!!!! #maroon5 is life to me!!! #superbowl50#HappyCamper I am.” The tweet was later deleted, and Henson posted a follow-up: “Oooooooopppps. Lmao!”
In the aftermath of her viral moment, Henson — who was watching the Super Bowl from a suite inside the stadium — blamed “Kool-Aid” for the mistake. “They put a lot of drinks in there. Kool-Aid, lemonade, iced tea. I mixed it all and I sat there and I’m sitting with people who drank the Kool-Aid as well,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “I’m human. I made a mistake. It happens! Come on! I drank the Kool-Aid!”
On Wednesday’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Henson’s tweet came up again. “You’re at the Super Bowl, and they give you Kool-Aid to drink. I had a lot of Kool-Aid,” she told host Jimmy Fallon about the error.
Henson added that when she started getting corrections to her account, she was insulted. “I was offended. Sipping my Kool-Aid. ‘Why is everyone telling me it’s Coldplay? I know Coldplay. I know Maroon 5 is not up there,'” she said. “Then I looked at the tweet, and I’m like, ‘Ah!'”
