Empire star Jussie Smollett, Selma star Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz (Upstream Color), and Callie Hernandez (Machete Kills) will join Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Demian Bichir, and Danny McBride on Alien: Covenant, EW has confirmed. The film — which is the second in a prequel trilogy that began with 2012’s Prometheus — will reportedly begin production next month.
Plot details for the Ridley Scott film are being kept under wraps, but Fox did release a short synopsis for the project late last year. “Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the ‘synthetic’ David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.”
Scott takes casting his films very seriously. “Cast well,” he told EW last year. “If you’ve got good taste — and I’ve got very good taste in casting — take your time and cast well. When you do, it will help [during filming]. You become partners.”
Alien: Covenant is due to hit theaters in October 2017. Deadline first reported the latest casting news.
