Kesha has broken her silence.
The 28-year-old pop star took to Instagram to thank those supporting her in the wake of Friday’s court ruling, in which she was denied a preliminary injunction against Dr. Luke, whom she has accused of sexual assault.
“The support I have received has left my face swollen from tears,” she writes. “I love you all so much.”
Kesha also wrote that “a statement too large for this format is coming.”
In an October 2014 complaint, Kesha accused Dr. Luke of “sexually, physically, verbally, and emotionally [abusing her] to the point where [she] nearly lost her life.” She asked that any contracts she had with Dr. Luke be voided so she could move on with her career without “interference or harassment from [him].” A ruling in favor of Kesha on Friday would have permitted her to record outside the umbrella of Dr. Luke, his record label Kemosabe Records, or its parent company, Sony Music.
Dr. Luke, real name Lukasz Gottwald, has maintained his innocence and accused Kesha of lying: “It’s sad that she would turn a contract negotiation into something so horrendous and untrue,” he wrote. In a statement released Monday, Dr. Luke’s lawyers said Kesha’s accusations were “outrageous claims” and “outright lies that have been advanced to extort a contract renegotiation and money.”
After Friday’s ruling, stars and supporters backed Kesha; the hashtag #FreeKesha began trending, with Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, Lena Dunham, and more speaking out in her support.
