Limitless comic-book art explores Sands' backstory

CBS’ Limitless may originate from the Bradley Cooper movie of the same name, but the show also finds narrative inspiration in unlikely places. A CIA black op becomes an off-the-wall tribute to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Sex scenes are reimagined as a Bollywood dance sequence. And Tuesday’s episode, titled “Sands, Agent of Morra,” takes a peek into Sands’ backstory through elaborate panels from a comic book — and EW has your first look via three exclusive images.
The upcoming episode takes a deep dive into the mysterious henchman’s past, and although Sands (Colin Salmon) may be Edward Morra’s right-hand man, he has a dark secret he wants to keep from the senator. When a past danger comes back to haunt him, he recruits Brian (Jake McDorman) to help him eliminate that threat.

Instead of telling Sands’ story through voice-overs or flashbacks, Brian reimagines his action-packed life — which includes a mysterious romance — as a comic book. The show recruited artists like Babs Tarr, Robbi Rodriguez, Annie Wu, Andrew Robinson, Joe Suitor, Mark Bright, and Nick Pitarra to illustrate Sands’ life on screen, and these three images are from Tarr, who’s best known for DC Comics’ Batgirl.
Limitless airs Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
