As Broad City stars Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer explained to Stephen Colbert on Tuesday’s Late Show, rainbow bagels are “hot on the scene” in Brooklyn — even though the colorful confections allegedly taste like they’ve been dipped in lip gloss.

But when Colbert took a bite, he and the Broad City duo were transported to Happy Bagel Place, where not everything is as it appears. In the bizarre sketch, the Happy Bagel Babies — the denizens of Happy Bagel Place — are ruled by the Bagel King, a totalitarian leader who does not allow the Bagel Babies to read or meet in groups for fear of a “Bagel Baby revolt.” But the Bagel King need not worry about the Bagel Babies; rather, it is only Colbert who can save them, using his laser-shooting bellybutton. (???)
