Sing trailer debuts starring Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon
- Movie
Singing competitions are going to the dogs — and pigs, elephants, mice, and porcupines — in the first full trailer for the animated comedy, Sing.
Starring Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly, Tori Kelly, and Taron Egerton, Sing is the story of Buster Moon (McConaughey), a theater-owning koala who decides to stage a singing competition in a last-ditch effort to save his venue.
“Just think,” Buster declares in the trailer, “your neighbor, the grocery store manager, that chicken right there — everyone in this city gets a shot at being a star live on my stage.”
The competition’s top contenders turn out to be a mouse (MacFarlane), a teenage elephant with stage fright (Kelly), an overtaxed mother (Witherspoon) with a large brood of piglets, a young gangster gorilla (Egerton), and a punk-rock porcupine (Johansson) struggling to shed her arrogant boyfriend.
And if the trailer is packed with recognizable tunes, the full movie, written and directed by Garth Jennings (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) is even more so: Sing features more than 85 songs. Check out the full trailer below for a peek at just a few of them.
The Illumination Entertainment and Universal Studios film is set to arrive in theaters on Dec. 21, 2016.
