Grammys 2016: Carrie Underwood and Sam Hunt perform 'Heartbeat'
Seven-time Grammy winner Carrie Underwood and current Grammy hopeful Sam Hunt delighted fans tonight with performance of Hunt’s breakout song “Take Your Time,” and “Heartbeat,” Underwood’s No.6-and-rising second single single off Underwood’s excellent 2015 collection, Storyteller.
Before Monday night’s ceremony, Underwood lost out to Chris Stapleton in the Best Country Solo Performance category. She was nominated for “Little Toy Guns,” which released in 2014 via her Greatest Hits: Decade #1 collection. Hunt is currently nominated for Best Country Album for Montevallo and in the overall Best New Artist Category.
When Underwood dropped “Heartbeat” last October there was a ripple of surprise at who was providing such warm backing vocals: Firebrand country breakout Sam Hunt. Features are a rare occurrence on the former American Idol champion’s albums and leading up to release, it seemed the same would be true for this collection. The singer told EW last August not to expect any collaborations.”There are no duets on the album,” she said. “I try not to force anything ever and that’s kind of where you can get into some tricky territory…It’s never really quite worked out on my album except for Randy Travis. But I mean, nothing really lends itself to that this time.”
While we don’t know if the song was recorded following our interview, or if the two stars just wanted to keep it a surprise, we do know this — there’s nothing about two of country’s premiere voices tango-ing that we don’t like.
