Annalise has some serious explaining to do!
During How to Get Away With Murder‘s midseason return, Annalise (Viola Davis) did not handle her post-shooting recovery very well, basically having fever dreams of Wes’ (Alfred Enoch) mother, Rose (Kelsey Scott), handing over her baby only for audiences to discover the Keating Five’s normally fearless leader coddling an empty blanket.
But the closing moments of the episode revealed a real shocker: Annalise was, in fact, pregnant 10 years ago, when she met Rose, and a young, but not infant Wes, a.k.a Christophe. “Even back in the pilot, Annalise told Wes she and Sam [Tom Verica] were trying to have kids,” executive producer Pete Nowalk tells EW. “That might’ve seemed like a lie back then, but now that we know she was actually pregnant 10 years earlier, this takes on new meaning.”

“What happened to the child she was pregnant with?” Nowalk continues. “Did this pregnancy alter her marriage with Sam forever? These are the central questions to the rest of this season. I will say this, the answers illuminate her relationship with Wes, and help us understand Annalise in a way we haven’t before.”
The plot thickens: Annalise seemed to recognize Christope before actually sitting down with Rose. Did she really randomly happen upon Wes’ mother, or is there more to that scene we’ve yet to discover? “That’s a great question, which will be answered in next week’s episode,” Nowalk promises.
How to Get Away With Murder airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
