The Worst Witch will be casting her spell on the small screen again.

CBBC Productions — the children’s arm of the BBC — has commissioned a reboot of The Worst Witch, based on Jill Murphy’s best-selling children’s novels about a hapless witch named Mildred Hubble studying magic at Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches and grappling with boarding-school-like life alongside her tabby cat, Tabby. (Miss Cackle’s is like Hogwarts, but only for witches, and with a lot more fun high jinks that don’t involve a Dark Lord of any sort.) The planned reboot, exec-produced by Marcus Wilson, will be written by Emma Reeves and produced by Lucy Martin.

Mildred’s adventures (well, misadventures, mostly) had previously been adapted for television with the 1998 series starring Georgina Sherrington and Felicity Jones that aired for three seasons on the British ITV network, and on YTV in Canada. Earlier in 1986, ITV also concocted a TV movie, The Worst Witch, that aired in the U.S. on HBO.
