In the new, Los Angeles-set thriller, The Invitation, a character played by Prometheus actor Logan Marshall-Green starts to believe that something terrible is going to happen at a dinner party hosted by his ex-wife (Tammy Blanchard) and new husband (Michiel Huisman). The movie’s director, Girl Fight filmmaker Karyn Kusama, explains she was partly drawn to the script — written by Matt Manfredi and Kusama’s husband, Phil Hay — because of her own creepy experiences at some L.A. soirées.

“When I first moved to L.A., I would be invited, through a friend-of-a-friend, to a party or a dinner,” she says. “There were a couple that I have memories of thinking, ‘There are some really weird vibes right now, and there are some tendrils and threads here that I’m not looking to unspool any further.’ I had a sense I needed to run. That fueled making the movie.”

The Invitation will be released in cinemas and on VOD on April 8. You can see the film’s new trailer, above.
