Grey’s Anatomy stars; they’re just like us.

As part of Entertainment Weekly’s mission to go “Beyond Beautiful,” Camilla Luddington — who plays Jo on Grey’s – was asked how she hopes to empower girls who are following her online.

When it comes to Instagram and its focus on appearance, Luddington wants people to know that it’s not always real. “I hope that people understand that this takes hours of work,” she said, indicating her hair and makeup. “I was wearing pimple cream last night. I get it.”

By staying positive and interacting with fans, Luddington wants to encourage young women to “have no fear and go out and do their dreams.”

Luddington also had some sweet words about her mother. Though she died when Luddington was younger, the actress still looks to her words for advice.

“I’ve taken what she says, and it means even more to me now,” Luddington said.
