Ryan Reynolds was on site in Santa Clara, California ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl 50. But he decided to head home and catch the game on TV (“I’m not going to waste the Super Bowl by being there!”), allowing him to witness a cute moment from his daughter, James.

The Deadpool star appeared in “Ryanville,” a Hyundai commercial that showed a neighborhood entirely populated by Ryan Reynoldses. James, who recently turned 1, was able to spot her dad on the TV screen.

“She just went, ‘Dada? Dada?'” Reynolds told PEOPLE and EW editorial director Jess Cagle during a special EW Radio town hall on SiriusXM. “I couldn’t tell if she was really psyched about it or it was her worst nightmare, just like 12 versions of me in this one commercial.”

“So all my daughter saw were 24 useless boobs: ‘You’re no use to me; you’re dead to me!'” he joked.
