How to pronounce Alicia Vikander's name, as told to Jimmy Kimmel
The Oscars are a time of celebration, controversy, and, often, embarrassing name pronunciations. It seems unlikely American pop culture will forget Dick Poop and Adele Dazeem, and this year’s batch of nominees includes Swedish actress Alicia Vikander. Since her name appears ripe for mispronunciation, Jimmy Kimmel asked her to give a definitive interpretation on Tuesday night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! According to Vikander, her name is pronounced “ah-liss-ee-ah vic-and-er.” There’s also a more difficult (and more accurate) Swedish interpretation, but both Vikander and Kimmel agreed that’s probably too much for American presenters.
“At the Oscars, if John Travolta has to introduce your category, God help him, it’s gonna be a disaster,” Kimmel said.

Despite her Swedish upbringing (and resulting time difference), Vikander told Kimmel she is well-acquainted with the Oscars ceremony.
“I remember when I finally came to the age my mom would let me set the alarm clock and get up at 2 a.m. and sit by the TV,” Vikander said. “Later on I even had sleepovers with friends, we stayed up in pajamas and ate popcorn and watched the Oscars and talked about all the dresses.”
